Released in 1958, Cross Country Suite would be considered a landmark in the careers of both Nelson Riddle and Buddy DeFranco. Riddle was already established as a great american pop composer and DeFranco was considered by many to be the one of greatest swing clarinetist of the time. The goal, to compose a crossover album for Buddy and the Nelson Riddle Orchestra of pieces dedicated to all different landscapes of the United States. The release of this album would also score Riddle his first Grammy Award.
