La Sangre Iluminada marks the seventh full-length release for Fernado Corona alias "Murcof", as well as his second endeavor in film scoring. The film, La Sangre Iluminada translated to "Enlightened Blood", was released in 2008 and directed by Iván Ávila Dueñas. Synopsis from website:
"On an off chance found in a transmutational crossroad, a strange phenomenon takes place. At that very moment a body change takes place for one of the six characters that narrate this complex existence through changes of "self" from one body to another, creating a framework of memories and shared experiences. The necessity to explain this strange condition connects them by means of objects, messages and memories."
As in most movie scores Theme and Repetition are clearly evident in the work, But it's the changes that make it fit so well with the styling and ideals of the film. It's the subtle loss of clarity or loss of melody to ambiance that shows the emotional deconstruction of the characters. It also shows a shift in direction for Corona as a composer as he continues to move farther away from beat driven electronic music and focus more on arrangement and composition. Beautiful, haunting, and very saddening.
